News

The news desk carries what happened: police and court filings, city hall decisions, weather that changes a weekend, and the local stories that larger outlets pick up a day later. Most of this archive was filed from the New York metropolitan area and the towns around it, which is where the edition started.

Three narrower desks sit inside this one. Politics takes the campaigns and the statehouse, Travel the places and what they cost, and Style food, fashion and the influence business. A report keeps the desk it was filed to, so the listing below reads the way the newsroom worked at the time.

The desk holds 62 reports filed between October 26, 2023 and November 23, 2023. Newest sits first, and the date under a headline is the date it was published.

A report belongs to one desk, and the address it was published at does not change afterwards: renaming a section does not move a page, so a link saved years ago still opens the same report. Where a story touches two subjects it stays in the desk it was filed to, and the same page is also reachable from the writer it belongs to.

The order on this page is by date, not by how much traffic a report draws, and long pieces are listed on the same terms as short ones. If a fact in one of them is wrong, the newsroom address takes corrections: the fix is written onto the report itself, with a note saying what changed, rather than published somewhere else.

This is page 4 of 6 in News, ordered newest first: page 1 holds the most recent filings on this desk and the last page the oldest.
